The Stadium – Track Details
Greyhound Racing under N.G.R.C. Rules commenced April 1993 at Meadow Court Stadium. The Greyhound Board Of Great Britain (GBGB) replaced the NGRC from 1st January 2009.
The track is 438 metres in circumference, with an all sand surface.
The standard distance is483m, the shorter trip is 275m. For the longer races the distance is 705m & 661m.
Automatic start and Electronic timing have been installed.
We used an outside Sumner Hare until Spring of 2001, but we are now using a Fannon/Swaffham Type Hare and the Sumner has been retained as a back-up
The Racing Office, run by our Racing Manager, Richard Munton deals with all the racing affairs.
Every Greyhound that comes on to the Track has to have 3 trials 2 over the distance that the Trainer wishes it to run. On these trials the Racing Managers will assess the capability of the Greyhound and ensure it is graded accordingly.
The grades go from A1 through to A7, and the Greyhounds are placed in the grade that in the opinion of the Racing Managers give that Greyhound a fair chance to win, provided it runs up to its form.
Young Greyhounds known as ‘Puppies’ usually start in bottom grade and progress up the scale according to their ability.
Stainforth has one of the safest tracks in the country, with any injuries closely monitored. Trainers are always welcome to inspect our running surface, at any mutually convenient time.
The Greyhound Board Of Great Britain in association with all the Licensed Tracks are working towards a National form database. All the form records of the Greyhounds held by the tracks will also be held by the Press Association. The form will then be available to the Sporting Papers etc:
Racing Managers Rules
First time Puppies must have a Solo Sprint Trial and then two four bend trials.
Greyhounds will be allowed 8 trials and if they are unable to grade then they will be removed from the strength. If the trainer thinks after a suitable break that the dog has improved then one more trial will be allowed.
Greyhounds beaten 15 lengths or over will have to retrial over the distance they were beaten, before being accepted for racing again (or at RM’s discretion).
Any greyhound finding over 50 spots in a race will be subject to a stewards inquiry.
